ABOUT ME

Cheyenne McMurray is a life experience led jeweller that lives and Studies in Rochester, Kent.
Originally from Jersey Channel Islands she is currently obtaining her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery at the University For The Creative Arts.
Cheyenne's work is inspired by her life, each collection made holds a story of a particular experience she has gone through, but Cheyenne's aim is to allow the jewellery to be interpreted by each individual wearer but share in the heaviness of each story held within the pieces.
My Current body of works comes from observing abandoned buildings; a particularly meaningful subject for me as I am amongst the final group of students who will graduate form UCA Jewellery & Silversmithing course at Rochester. The marks and signs of abandonment have been the focus of my project.
Unconscious marks and scars, chipped paint and weathered surfaces have all become my visual language. Collaging these images, cutting and editing them together has helped me to produce hybrid shapes that have acted as models for proposed pieces. I like to explore the point where order has been lost and chaos is setting in; edges rounded and crumbling, colours faded.
Testing has focused on trying to repeat these surfaces as honestly as possible using hammers and chemical etching.
Chemical etching has produced some really exciting results around this theme, where acid has eaten more than planned. These unexpected outcomes from testing are where my interests lie.
